CSIA tip: Get more firewood than you need Chimney Safety Institute of America

Here's the first in a series of awesome firewood-purchase tips from Thomas Rhines, a Michigan-based CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep (and veteran of the National Chimney Sweep Guild board of directors.)

It was filmed during Sweeps Week 2014 at the Chimney Safety Institute of America training facility in Plainfield, Indiana.

Quality, well seasoned firewood will help your wood stove or fireplace burn cleaner and more efficiently, while green or wet wood can cause smoking problems, odor problems, rapid creosote buildup and possibly even dangerous chimney fires. That's why we advocate purchasing your fuel long before you need it, and store it in such a way that it can dry and season, so it is ready when cold weather returns in the late fall.
