Chimney Safety Institute of America, a nonprofit that provides industry training and homeowner resources, is collaborating with the Wayne Township Fire Department of Indianapolis on a new public awareness campaign. Both organizations are interested in educating the public on the risks involved with using a wood-fueled appliance (such as a fireplace/wood stove) unless the appliance has been inspected by a qualified chimney sweep professional. CSIA Certified Chimney Sweeps certainly meet that criteria. We want the public to enjoy a cozy fire with less risk.
Because chimney fires can occur, CSIA created a brochure that is free (bit.ly/chimneyfire) and can be used as a resource for homeowners that have experienced the unwanted fire in their chimney flue.
